Why use raspberries?

It is not an unusual question because many of us tend to ignore this fruit entirely. However, raspberries are very nutritious and contain a good amount of fiber, potassium, calcium, vitamin C, iron, vitamin B6, and magnesium.

Plus, this fruit is super versatile! You can make your smoothie thicker by adding other fruits, such as bananas, pineapples, blackberries, strawberries, and cherries.

If you also happen to be in an area low in this fruit, try alternating for other berries, nectarines, or red currants.

Adding things to your smoothie!

Many have the misconception that smoothies are quite unhealthy. This is true of those commercial blends full of empty sugars and high-fat milk. This homemade smoothie is healthy because YOU are choosing to make it so.

In this case, the sweetener of choice is totally up to you! This recipe does not require any sweet because the banana and milk provide enough, but you can certainly add a touch of honey or agave.

The raspberries themselves do not contain much calories or sugar. Still, you may blink twice at adding bananas because they are high in sugar. Do not worry, though, this fruit is very sweet, but also contains a very good amount of your daily nutrients. You can skip it if you prefer, though, and add other fruits, like apples or cherries.

Finally, the milk does not have to be dairy. You can choose almond, coconut, soy, or the milk alternative of your liking. If you do go for regular cow milk, make sure to pick a low-fat version when possible.

Now all that is left to do is add the two tablespoons of lime juice. This can also be substituted for lemon juice, if you need it.

Blend everything up to the texture of choice, adding more fruit or milk as you see fit. Serve your smoothie fresh when possible, add a bit of protein powder for higher nutrient content, or satisfy a sweet craving any time of the day!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen raspberries

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice

  • 2 cups milk

Directions

  • Put all ingredients into a blender.
  • Pulse on high until smooth.
  • Pour into a drinking glass.
  • Top with fresh raspberries.
  • Enjoy!
