The Many Health Benefits Of A Ginger, Cinnamon, And Kale Smoothie

Antioxidants are at the center of any detox strategy. Your liver can benefit significantly from them. So it’s a pretty neat thing that they are present in ginger. And not in just any way, but as part of complex phytochemicals.

You don’t need to become a chemist to discover all the benefits of these antioxidants. The ones in ginger play a double role. One is to flush out toxins. The other is to protect your liver.

But ginger is not the only excellent ingredient in this smoothie. Cinnamon, consumed moderately, has a positive effect, too.

Even more, it can reduce fats, like the ones accumulated by a fatty liver. So, when added to a smoothie, cinnamon can increase the benefits.

Leafy greens should never be amiss from a detox liver diet. But you might not like having them all day long. Don’t worry! Getting some kale in your smoothie will solve this problem.

And the strong aroma given by ginger and cinnamon will deter any aversion you might have for green smoothies. To give it more body, add some bananas, too.

Prep time

  • 3/4 inch ginger (grated)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 handful fresh kale

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup filtered water

  • ice cubes

  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar (optional)

  • Add all ingredients to your blender (see note for ginger).
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour smoothie into a suitable glass.
  • Enjoy!

  • Make sure to grate your ginger really finely so you don’t end up chewing on raw ginger bits.
  • I usually use a garlic grater to reduce my ginger to a “paste” consistency.
  • The heat in ginger may vary, so don’t add all the ginger in at once. I usually put in 1/2 to 2/3 of the ginger, blend, and taste.
  • If I feel like a “hotter” smoothie, I will add some more ginger, pulse a few times and taste again.
