Not only do you get all of the fruit flavors of a smoothie, but you also get a whole load of your daily vitamins and minerals needs from the vegetables.

However, organic is the way to go with this smoothie as you would want to avoid herbicides and pesticides that can impede on your detox progress.

Furthermore, this smoothie is a great one for going “off piste”. Check out what you have in your fridge and pull out anything green – chances are that you will have all the ingredients you need for making a lovely, fruit and veg based green detox smoothie …

The nutritional benefits of this smoothie will vary depending on what you put in it. However, if you follow the recipe, here are some of the key benefits.

Cucumbers are rich in antioxidants as well as a lot of vitamin K. The high water content in cumbers make them ideal for smoothies. In addition, cucumbers are great for your blood pressure and heart rate.

Apples are packed with nutrients as well as natural fiber. Even though apples can be sweet, they score low on the glycemic index and will not cause a spike in sugar levels.

The health benefits of spinach are many. In fact, studies show that spinach can be very efficient against oxidative stress.

Kiwis (also called Chinese gooseberry) are great for improving your skin, eyes and heart health.

Contrary to popular belief, avocados do not make you fat. In, fact it is a super food and should is among the healthiest foods in the world.

Fruit & Veg Based Green Detox Smoothie

Prep time




  • 1/4 cucumber

  • 3 1/2 oz spinach

  • 1/2 avocado

  • 1 celery stalk

  • 1 kiwi fruit

  • 1/2 apple

  • 1 cup purified water

  • lemon juice (to taste)


  • Dice the cucumber (see note about the peel) and add to blender
  • Dice the avocado and add to blender
  • Chop the celery into chunks and add to blender
  • Peel and cut kiwi into chunks before adding to blender
  • Chop apple into chunks and add to blender
  • Add spinach to blender
  • Pour in water (hold some back so you can regulate the consistency)
  • Blend until smooth and add lemon juice to taste
  • Pour into a suitable drinking container


  • If you are using an organic cucumber, you can leave the peel on for added nutritional value.

    However, if it is not organic, I suggest you peel the cucumber first.
