Vitamix as a company has been around since 1932, giving them almost 90 years of engineering expertise in this area of kitchen appliances. And with the world of kitchen appliances changing on an almost daily basis, it’s sometimes hard to try and keep up with everything. But while many constantly improve their products, some hit their mark the first time, providing an appliance that is almost perfect the way it is.

When it comes to blenders, there are tons of choices available. Just pop into any electrical store and the choice of products is mind-blowing. Walls and walls of options exist and the differences between them can quickly cause confusion. Almost to the point where you simply grab the nearest one and try and run before anyone notices what you’ve decided on.

The truth is, blenders make our lives easier, just as they have for quite a few decades now. Thanks to the people at Vitamix, they’ve also improved our health through clever adaptations that allow for a lot more than just milkshakes. That’s why it pays to understand what blenders do and how they’ve managed to make their way into the majority of the world’s kitchens.

What does the Vitamix 5200 Blender offer?

In the early days, blenders created drinks and sauces, plus the base for soups that could be used once finished. Today, the world of blending has evolved into a multi-million-dollar industry. It incorporates its grass roots into an appliance that helps with improving the very health of people.

Specifically-designed blades work the food in special ways. Utilizing hardened metals to ensure they remain usable for years to come, plus work in conjunction with the very container they sit in. Redesigned Motors, re-engineered parts, all combine with improving functionality ten-fold since their original days. Even the containers themselves have undergone revolutionary design tweaks, to ensure they add to the overall functionality.

When it comes to the bestselling Vitamix blender, the 5200 has come a long way from those early days. This transformed blender perfectly suits any kitchen. Here’s what you get-

Motor-A 2.0 peak horsepower motor perfectly suits anything you might throw at it in your kitchen. This motor has been around for quite some time, continuing to power this workhorse for one reason: it works.

Height-With a total height of 20.5 inches, it’s large enough to blend most recipes in a single session. This gives you more time to do other things you might need.

High-Speed Toggle-For those times you need a quick burst of speed above the normal settings. This switch will increase the speed of the blades for as long as you need.

Dial-There are 10 speed settings, which is enough to give you the option of choosing just how much speed you need to blitz ingredients. This is helpful for when you create things like salsa, where you might not need a complete paste.

Colors-Not everyone’s going to want the same bland stock color some other manufacturers offer. That’s why the 5200 comes in red, black, white, platinum, and even brushed silver.

Blades-The blades in the Vitamix 5200 are made from high-strength aircraft-grade steel. We’re talking laser-cut blades made from steel that’s rated for use in airplanes. That’s pretty tough metal. With 3-inch diameter cutters, they might feel dull to touch. But turn the dial and watch them reduce your chunky ingredients into the smoothest smoothies imaginable.

Pitcher-This is where it all comes together with the 5200. There’s a generous 64-ounce pitcher at your disposal. That’s large enough for even the most demanding recipes you might have.

Power Cord-This might not be such a huge deal for some. But the 6-foot-long power cord gives you the option of placing your blender in almost any position in your kitchen. It gives the blender a bit more versatility, as you can place it away from your normal working space.

BPA Free-There’s always a question of the toxicity of the materials used to make our kitchen utensils. With the Vitamix, you’re guaranteed a BPA-free pitcher that conforms to all health and safety regulations.

Warranty-I always see a warranty as offering one thing and that’s peace of mind. With a full 7-year warranty to back up this amazing appliance, you’ll have peace of mind for a long time to come. That’s the kind of guarantee that wins customers. Especially when a company is prepared to look after you for such a long time.

How does the Vitamix 5200 blender compare to the newer 7500?

As with any kitchen appliance, there will always be modifications, advancements and changes which a manufacturer makes. Sometimes, these are due out of necessity. The appliance might have a significant flaw that may have not been picked up prior to mass producing them for general release. Or, there may be significant feedback from the public who might offer suggestions for alternative features or improvements.

The great thing about the 5200 is that it has such an amazing reputation. Even later models keep a lot of the original features that make the 5200 so amazing. That’s a pretty big compliment and sends a huge message to the engineers at Vitamix. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

But the truth is, the 7500 is a new blender that aims to improve on some of the features of its predecessor. So, to give you a complete picture, here are the differences between the two.

  • Motor-An upgraded 2.2 Peak Horsepower motor. Whilst this might seem a slight improvement, it comes down to a 10% increase in overall power.
  • Height-One of the more common complaints from users was that the height of the 5200 interfered with where they could use it. It struggled to fit under cupboards for storing. This would come down to personal circumstances. The new 7500 is 17.25 inches tall.
  • Pulse-The 5200 has a high-speed toggle and many people felt the feature was redundant. Instead, they requested a pulsing function, as many recipes highlighted this need. Vitamix listened and added the pulse feature onto the 7500 model.
  • Cooling-With the addition of a cooling fan for the motor, the heating of soups is now much easier. Thanks to the temperature of the motor remaining cool, soup in the pitcher easily heats up with time. How does it heat up soup, you ask? By friction from the blades. And heating soup is also a capability of the 5200, although some people found the motors heating up after 6 to 8 minutes of use.
  • Blades-The blades have also been increased, from 3 inches up to 4. This may seem like a significant increase, given the new pitcher shape. But it really doesn’t make a difference, as the low-profile and wider base of the new pitcher negates the size difference.
  • Pitcher-Only the shape of the pitcher has been changed, probably because of the people complaining about the overall height of the 5200. This makes sense, but apart from reducing the height of the 7500, there’s no other benefit at all.

What Does the 5200 have in common with the 7500?

Remember how I said if something’s not broken, why fix it? That’s what I think when I look at all the things that remained the same with the new 7500 blender model. Because when you get right down to it, a lot of the things that a blender stands for, remain the same between the 5200 and the 7500. Here’s what remained the same-

  • Pitcher-While the shape of the 7500 changed to make it lower and wider, the overall size remained the same. This means both blenders use a 64-ounce pitcher. It’s also good to note that both pitchers are also certified BPA free, as well as being shatterproof.
  • Warranty-The 7-year warranty remains the same. So when it comes to the previous model, Vitamix still have just as much confidence in their older blender, as they do with their newer model.
  • Power Cord-Both blenders share the 6-foot-long power cord, giving you enough reach to almost any power socket in your kitchen.
  • Blades-Whilst there may be a slight difference in size (3-inch and 4-inch), the reality is, that they both remain the same shape. They are also made from the same material and create just as much cutting power as each other. And the blades for me, are the center of any blender. In this case, I struggle to find any advantage of one over the other.
  • Speeds-Both blenders offer the same 10-speed dial options, giving you a huge range of blending speeds.
  • Plunger-Just like so many other similarities, they both come with a plunger that helps deliver your ingredients closer to the blades.

But don’t take my word for it. Here are what some of the very-real purchasers say about the Vitamix 5200 blender for themselves. Find their reviews online right now and that’s something I love reading.
